fire rescue living well in north yarmouth committee

North Yarmouth Fire Rescue is partnering with the Living Well in North Yarmouth Committee to provide wellness checks and other needs to the community during the coronavirus pandemic. The Fire Rescue department has a running list of residents in the town that they check on during town wide emergencies, snow storms, power outages, etc. The Fire Rescue Department is making these phone calls to our residents on Tuesdays and Fridays. Our first priority is to ensure the health of our community members. During the wellness checks, we have found that there may be a need to assist other members in the community, as well as those that are immuno-compromised, with groceries and medication pick-up.

Living Well in North Yarmouth has a group of dedicated members from the community willing to help those in need of the pick-up and delivery of groceries and medications. Having groceries and essential picked up will allow those in of items to still receive their essential items while limiting contact with the general public.

If you would to like assist with this program as a volunteer with Living Well in North Yarmouth, please complete the online application . One of the Living Well in North Yarmouth Committee members will be in touch with you.

If you would like to be added to the Fire Rescue Wellness Check list, please complete the online form. Once received, this will be added to our call list.

Thank you in advance for your willingness to help those in our community in need.

NOTICES

*Motor vehicle and trailer registrations, including all temporary registrations and any fuel use decals that expire during the state of emergency will be extended.

This applies to registrations issued by municipalities or the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and also to temporary registrations issued by dealers.  The State of Maine recognizes the need of individuals, families, and businesses for transportation, work and commerce during the emergency.  These registrations can be renewed after the emergency ends.

Registrations issued by a municipality, including temporary registrations, are deemed extended until 30 days following the termination of the state of emergency  pursuant to P.L. 2019, ch. 617, F-1 , emergency laws approved by the Governor on March 18, 2020.

Other registrations, including temporary registrations, will be extended until 30 days following the termination of the state of emergency pursuant to the emergency provision of 29-A MRSA 405(4).

Please call the central office of the Department of the Secretary of State at 207-626-8400 if you have an emergency related to BMV that is not addressed by these registration extensions.

Maine State Police Extend Grace Period for Inspections

State Police have issued an extended grace period for inspections that expired during the COVD-19 State of Emergency declared by Gov. Janet Mills.

“It is the opinion of the Maine State Police that when LD 2167 was signed into law on March 18th it granted an extension on all inspections until 30 days after the end of the emergency declaration,” said Lt. Bruce Scott in an email to all Maine State Police employees. [The law] states only vehicles required to be registered must be inspected and therefore during the period of time that the emergency declaration is in effect and for 30 days after, vehicles are not required to be inspected either. Current Maine Motor Vehicle Inspection rules require vehicles be currently registered before the vehicle can be inspected therefore it would be impossible for those with expired registrations to have their vehicles inspected.”

State Police personnel are being asked not to take any type of enforcement action for expired inspections during this period. This does not exempt people that are driving unsafe vehicles at this time or any time in the future. Defective motor vehicles are illegal to operate on public ways regardless of inspection status and Maine State Troopers will continue to remove dangerous vehicles that pose an immediate threat to public safety during this time.

Here is the portion of the law being cited:

1. Vehicles and trailers. Notwithstanding the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 29-A, 10 chapter 5 or any other law or municipal charter provision or ordinance to the contrary, a registration, including a temporary registration, of a vehicle, including, without limitation, a motor vehicle, all-terrain vehicle, watercraft or snowmobile, or a trailer required to be registered in this State that expires during the period of a state of emergency declared by the Governor in accordance with Title 37-B, section 742 due to the outbreak of COVID-19 is deemed extended until 30 days following the termination of the state of emergency

§1751. Motor vehicle inspection

1. Inspection required. Except as provided in this chapter or section 2307, subsection 1, a motor vehicle required to be registered in this State must have an annual inspection. A person may have a motor vehicle inspected more frequently.
