Introducing Royal River Conservation Trust's New Mèmak Preserve in North Yarmouth

We are pleased to introduce RRCT's newest preserve, the Mèmak Preserve located on Lufkin Road in North Yarmouth. Forty-six acres of majestic forests with trails allow exploration through towering oaks and pines hosting wildlife and a diverse mix of plant species. Mèmak is the term used by Maine's first people for Pileated Woodpeckers, known in Wabanaki lore as friendly birds that bring luck and happiness.

Ed Gervais and RRCT Board Member Rob Wood walked the neighborhood trails this spring, in the early stages of the project, discussing a donation

(Above, Ed Gervais and RRCT Board Member Rob Wood walked the neighborhood trails this spring, in the early stages of the project, discussing a donation.)

Earlier this year, Ed & Joyce Gervais and their family asked us whether we'd consider a donation of the woods behind their Walnut Hill Farm. From our first visit to the woods, we were charmed by the ancient trees, bird songs in the canopy, and well-worn neighborhood trails.

To learn more about the Mèmak Preserve log onto www.rrct.org or contact  Alan Stearns, Executive Director, Alan@RRCT.org (207) 215-8315 or Carrie Ridgway, Development Coordinator, Carrie@RRCT.org (207) 615-7824.
