SIMPLE SUSTAINABILITY SWAPS
simple sustainability swaps

According to an Earthday.org research estimate, Americans use half a billion drinking straws each day.

Though plastic straws may seem small, their rapid rate of consumption makes a big impact on plastic pollution.

You can easily reduce your use of plastic straws by keeping a reusable metal straw in your bag or car.

You can also opt for paper straws or simply go strawless!

msad news

new school msad 51

Last week, the Board's Building Committee that is charged with leading the proposed new primary school project held its first public informational session at the GCA. If you were not able to attend in-person or missed the live streamed event, you can watch the full session on MSAD #51's YouTube channel at this link: September 27, 2022 Public Info Session. A second session will be offered on Wednesday, October 12 @ 6:00 PM at the North Yarmouth Community Center. All are invited!

Check out this illuminating and exciting virtual tour of the exterior of the proposed school, as created by the architects: Virtual Walk Around.

This is the vote of a generation when it comes to the long-term integrity of MSAD #51's infrastructure and ability to appropriately program for all of its students, both current and future. With 200 more students at MIW than six years ago and 350-400 more projected over the next decade, the time has come to make a definitive decision about the future of our schools.

Not only will a new school relieve overcrowding at the primary level, it will eliminate space-related stress at other grade spans in order to comfortably educate all of the district's students. If approved on November 8, the new primary school would educate students in grades PreK-grade 2, while reconfiguring MIW as an intermediate school for grades 3-5 and reverting GMS back to grades 6-8 only. GHS would continue for grades 9-12.

Please educate yourself about the history of enrollment studies, the current state of 21 modular classrooms at MIW and GMS, and the future projections that necessitate action now without further delay. Three years of planning, studies, architectural renderings, concept designs, site location, and building committees have brought us to one compelling conclusion: MSAD #51 is short by one entire school facility and must build a new school in order to effectively and safely educate our students in the years and decades ahead.

Please visit our district's informational page on the proposed new school project and become informed about this important project: New Primary School Webpage. This page includes New Primary School FAQ.

SOUP & CIDER DAY SUNDAY, OCTOBER 16th 12noon to 3pm.

It's baaack!!! Come on out for a North Yarmouth fall tradition—pressing cider and sharing a potluck lunch on a beautiful fall day. You are heartily invited!
We're looking for a few good cooks to contribute a crockpot of soup, your favorite cornbread or rolls, or sweet treats.                                                                                                                                                            We know there are lots of talented and generous cooks and bakers in town and we'd love to sample your wares!

We're trying something new for Soup & Cider Day: using "SignUpGenius" for sign up to volunteer and/or supply goodies for the day. Give it a try and let's see how it works! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C094DADA828A7F4CE9-soup
