COMMUNITY NEWS
Photo contest
Calling All Photographers!
Capture North Yarmouth’s Beauty for Maine Municipal Association Contest
The winning photos from across Maine will be featured on a custom deck of playing cards.

Do you have an artistic flair? A passion for photography? Want to immortalize the essence of our beloved community? The Maine Municipal Association (MMA), a voluntary membership organization offering an array of professional services to municipalities and other local governmental entities in Maine, invites you to participate in a photo contest. They are seeking captivating images that showcase the beauty of Maine throughout the seasons—spring, summer, fall, and winter. Whether it’s a serene sunset, a bustling community event, or a quirky local landmark, they want to see it!

The winning photos—52 in total from municipalities across Maine—will be featured on a custom deck of playing cards. These unique decks will be distributed to attendees at the 2024 MMA Annual Convention, an event in October offering training, networking, and the opportunity for municipal officials and employees from across Maine to visit a wide variety of vendors.
Communities that contribute photos will be entered into a drawing for a two-day pass to the convention; that means one Town of North Yarmouth staff member might attend the conference for free, which would save hundreds of dollars. And of course, winners will earn well-deserved bragging rights.

Submit your photos to Sue Bourdon at sbourdon@memun.org by noon on Monday, April 1, 2024. A panel of judges will convene in May to pick the winners. Photos must be submitted in electronic format (preferably JPG), not as physical prints. Once submitted, MMA retains the right to reprint the winning photos. No monetary compensation will be provided to contributors. When you submit a photo, make sure to describe the image and explain its significance to our community.

Don’t miss this chance to capture North Yarmouth’s essence through your lens. Let’s celebrate North Yarmouth’s natural beauty and community spirit together! Any questions about this photo contest should be directed to the above email address.
OLD TOOLS

North Yarmouth Historical invites you to a fun program on

Sunday, March 10 at 2 PM at Old Town House:

Old Tools: Odd, Beautiful, Yours and Ours

Guest speaker Dave Coffin of Pownal has been collecting old tools since a young age. He's bringing a tool that was created by his ancestor Thomas Coffin of Freeport in the 1790s!

Guest speaker Art Gaffer has a similar passion. He grew up on Munjoy Hill and is a member of the Early American Industries Association and the Cumberland Farmers Club, among others.

Both speakers will bring old tools to show AND will be happy to tell you about the ones YOU bring. Show and share, everybody!

A short North Yarmouth Historical Annual Meeting will precede the presentation. Refreshments provided. Hope to see you there!
