family wellness festival july 16

Join us for the next community mental health event! On Friday, July 16th the Cumberland/North Yarmouth Mental Health Committee will be hosting a Family Wellness Fair at Walnut Hill Wellness Center.

Walnut Hill Wellness Center is a hub for connection. It's a place where kids can find their rhythm, teens learn to love themselves and parents realign with their intuition.

Trust Your Gut, Inc and the team at the Walnut Hill Wellness Center, nicknamed "Big Red" are so excited to party on July 16th! We have a festival line-up that is doing what we love the most: planting seeds of joy for our children. During this two hour event we are offering a peek into what the Center is made of. Welcome, welcome, welcome!

Cumberland / North Yarmouth Lions Club Announce the 2021 Citizen and Business of the Year!
Anne Smith Citizen of the year

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Anne Smith exemplifies the spirt of someone with a big heart who reaches out to help others and honor the tradition of our small community.

After spending most of her childhood and early adulthood in the neighboring town of Falmouth, Anne made the move to North Yarmouth in 2003 when she met her husband, Andy. Over the last 15 years they have had the incredible honor of raising two children, Cayden and Sophie. Six years ago, at Cayden’s request, the family welcomed two goats into their small barn on North Yarmouth’s quiet dirt road, The Lane. Herd numbers escalated quickly from there when the children decided to try their hand at animal husbandry and the family now spends countless hours raising the 12 goats, 18 ducks, 3 chickens and 1 rabbit that now call the Smith Family Farm their home. As a family, they are active members of the 4H community; helping to keep the deep agricultural roots of North Yarmouth alive and well…intentionally or not intentionally as the case may be!

Anne has been an active member of the North Yarmouth Fire Department since 2013, where she works as an EMT and was, for some time, the operator/engineer of the department’s primary attack engine.

She currently serves as an administrative lieutenant, overseeing the department’s Live-In Student program for the last seven years.

business of the year

BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

Louie’s Grille was founded by Jim Guidi in 2014. Although Jim had no prior experience running a restaurant, he says that his interest was sparked after serving food for the Greely football team at their local games. It didn’t hurt that he had some favorite Italian recipes from his mother and knowledge of what was needed in the community for a dining experience. In Jim Guidi fashion, he embraced the idea and immediately began looking for a location in the center of Cumberland. It was not long before he bought and remodeled the Turner home on Main Street and Louie’s Grille was born.

Why the restaurant was named “Louie’s Grille”?  According to their website…”Jim and his family once had a family member, Louie, for whom the restaurant is named. Louie was a beautiful boy, a golden retriever, who brought warmth, friendship and love to the Guidi family. Ok, so not many restaurants are named for a dog, but Jim wanted Louie’s spirit to be present in this welcoming place—the spirit of adventure, friendship, and a lifelong pursuit of great food!” As regular customers will attest, Louie’s Grille meets those lofty goals while also serving great food!

Most importantly, Louie’s Grille is always ready to pitch in as needed. It has consistently cared for the local community. Whether it was donating and delivering food to local Seniors who were shut in, supporting our youth by donating to various school activities, supporting North Yarmouth’s Fun Day event, volunteering with the Lions Club, or giving of their time and resources to help people in need during the COVID pandemic, Louie’s Grille illustrates how small businesses are

an important contributor to not only our commerce, but also to the needs of it’s community members. Louie’s joins previous business winners such as Food Stop, Ames Farm Center, A.H. Grover, Inc. and Copp Motors to name a few.

Congratulations to Louie’s Grille for being named Cumberland/North Yarmouth’s Lions Club Business of the Year! (Photo: L to R- Darla Hamlin, Lions Treasurer and Project Manager; and Jim Guidi, owner of Louie’s Grille and fellow Lion.)

Skyline Farm Carriage Museum’s current exhibit highlights vehicles seen at numerous summer events throughout the horse-drawn era.

Folks of the day used beach wagons, buggies, fringe top surreys, and hearses, just to name a few.  The children used goat and dog carts.

A custom built 100+ year old wagon designed to move a rare children's flying seat ride from fair to fair will be partially setup.

NOPE - YOU CAN NOT RECYCLE THAT !
ecomaine

Expandable garden hoses are wicked convenient, right?

But when they're in the recycling (a no-no), they tangle the machines and can injure our workers when pulled out.

Please think twice about what you put in the bin.
