A MESSSAGE FROM THE FIRE RESCUE DEPARTMENT
We would like to remind residents and non-residents that when using the walking trails near Old Town House Park and the trail system next to Route-9 and Baston Park, parking is not allowed anywhere near the dry hydrant. This area is specifically set up for fire department access to the dry hydrant. The dry hydrant located here serves a vast amount of North Yarmouth and parts of Pownal for water supply in the event of a fire. The Yellow and Blue lines painted on the ground tell our engineers of a certain truck where to line up to ensure their suction hose will be able to make the connection. This dry hydrant area is very well marked "NO Parking Allowed"
North Yarmouth has two dry hydrants located in key areas of town to assist with water supply in the event of a fire. There is one located on Mill Road and this one at Route-9 and the Royal River. Both areas have signage stating no parking is allowed.
Thank you in advance for keeping these areas free of parking to allow for the proper fire protection in our community.
STAY OUT STAY ALIVE !
Recently there has been evidence of people "playing & exploring" in the Town Gravel Pit. Please for your safety STAY OUT and STAY ALIVE.
Exploring or playing at active and abandoned pit sites is dangerous, potentially fatal. Water-filled quarries and pits hide rock ledges, old machinery and other hazards. The water can be deceptively deep and dangerously cold. Hills of loose material can easily collapse on an unsuspecting biker or climber.
The United States Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) oversees all pits, quarries and mine. Only trained personal are allowed in any pit, quarry or mine.

Skyline Farm Carriage Museum’s current exhibit "Town and Country: Rocking and Rolling Down The Lane” showcases approximately forty unique business and personal cold weather, horse-drawn carriages and sleighs that would have been used during a typical New England winter. Sleighs were more likely used in the snowy countryside and wheeled vehicles in the warmer cities.
Of special interest, Skyline has recently acquired a rare Brewster & Co. Cee Spring Landau. This rather large, rare vehicle features a double-hooded roof arrangement which was great for summer or winter travel. Other vehicles on display include an original J.F. Hall sleigh built in Rockland, Maine, circa 1890, a double seat Albany, a sidewalk snow-roller, a heating contractor sleigh, a postal delivery sleigh, and a Buxton oil delivery vehicle. Oil and kerosene were once delivered to your home or business via a horse-drawn oil tanker!
Skyline Farm has partnered with Greely Middle School Art Teacher James Treadwell whose students created stunning three-dimensional paper snowflakes to hang from the museum's 1959 rafters to create a wintry ambience.
The museum, located at 95 The Lane, North Yarmouth, is open for public viewing on Sundays, from Feb. 6 through March 27, 1-4 p.m. or by appointment. Free admission; donations are appreciated. Dress warmly.
