Join us in welcoming the newest member of the North Yarmouth Team! | |
Hello, my name is Becky Jackman. I grew up and live in a neighboring town close to North Yarmouth. I have worked for over 30 years in administration and finance and especially enjoy working with the public. I love spending time with my family, especially my three grandchildren. In the summer we enjoy our camp together. In the winter, I can be found in The County snowmobiling with my husband and friends. I also love to quilt and read and explore Maine in my spare time. I am excited to join the team here and to be a part of the community. I appreciate the warm welcome I have received from the residents so far! |
Urgent notice for all domestic foul/bird owners. Anaimal Control Officer, Bobby Silcott recently spoke with IF&W regarding the Avian Flu, which has been confirmed in the State of Maine. The avian flu is highly contagious and has the potential of wiping out flocks of domestic birds- ducks, chickens, turkeys, guinea hens, etc. ACO Silcott is urging the general public to take special care for isolating, cleaning, and disinfecting poultry enclosures. All contact between wild and domestic birds should be avoided, including droppings of wild birds. This is of great concern with “Free Range” birds. IF&W stated risk to humans eating eggs or meat should not be a concern.
Please click here for more information. Contact ACO Silcott, Maine IF&W or the Maine CDC with any questions.

Thursday, April 14 at 6:30 pm, Walnut Hill Garden Club hosts a talk at Skyline Farm on 'How to Help Bobolinks and other Grassland Birds Thrive' by Maeve McGowan, program staff for Ag Allies. Together we will explore the remarkable life history of grassland birds and how we can contribute to stabilizing their populations through habitat improvement and protection. Free admission.
For four years Maeve McGowan has been studying grassland birds and educating landowners on bird-friendly land management practices. In 2018, she served as a research technician on the Bobolink Odyssey project, monitoring breeding behavior of Bobolinks and Savannah Sparrows in Shelburne, Vermont. Her independent research explored the impact of climate change on grassland birds, dairy farmers, and the complex dynamic between them.
In her most recent role as Land and Development Coordinator at the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust (KELT), Maeve built an intricate understanding of Maine's conservation landscape. In 2021, KELT launched an official partnership with Ag Allies, funded by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, to expand grassland bird conservation throughout the state. Now Maeve works with farmers, land trusts, municipalities, and private landowners to manage their land in a sustainable and bird-friendly way. In her talk, Maeve will share more on the population trends, list history, breeding behavior, and conservation needs of grassland birds in Maine, highlighting some projects right here in North Yarmouth. Join us to learn more!
Skyline Farm is located at 95 The Lane, North Yarmouth. For more information, please email info@skylinefarm.org.

PML Introduces Two New Programs for Seniors
Let's Look Back: Remembering and Sharing Stories from the Past 2nd Tuesdays (Beginning April 12), 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. In-person at the No. Yarmouth Community Center Community Room
Remember when phones were actually dialed (or, better yet, when you shared a "party line"?). When Sunday dinner with family was a weekly event? When Elvis wore blue suede shoes?
Let's Look Back is a conversation about those times we remember in our early years, shared with people who remember them, too.
Facilitator Amy Hatch is eager to hear stories from people who were there, back when ... She is a licensed social worker and lives with her husband and son in Cumberland.
Teatime AudioStories: A Read-Aloud and Social Group for Seniors 2nd and 4th Thursdays (Beginning April 14), 3 to 4 p.m. In person at the North Yarmouth Community Center Community Room
Bring some busy work or just bring yourself. Relax and listen to a short story or an essay read aloud by Kelly Greenlee, a librarian at Prince Memorial Library. What a great way to spend an afternoon. |
