Casco Bay Trail Public Meeting

Casco Bay Trail (CBT) - Where is it coming from and where is it going?
Do you know that a new 72-mile bicycle/pedestrian off-road trail loop is being proposed to re-purpose an unused railroad line? The southern end would start near the empty B&M Baked Bean factory (and soon-to-be The Roux Institute) in Portland, go through Falmouth, Cumberland, Yarmouth, North Yarmouth, New Gloucester, and Pownal, before coming to its northwestern terminus in Auburn. From Auburn, existing and new trail systems would complete the loop to Freeport, and reconnect with the CBT in Yarmouth.

MaineDOT will host a presentation followed by a Question-and-Answer period to discuss the ongoing efforts of the Portland to Auburn Rail Use Advisory Council (Council). The purpose of the Council is to facilitate discussion, gather information and provide advice to the MaineDOT commissioner regarding future use of the state-owned rail corridor. The corridor council process was established (23 MRSA §75) by the Maine State Legislature in 2021.
The meeting will give the public an opportunity to provide input to the Council regarding the future use of the Berlin Subdivision rail line from Portland to Auburn. We are particularly interested in learning local and regional views and identifying concerns and issues.
Accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities.
Questions, comments, or inquiries can be made directly through the Council website at https://www.maine.gov/mdot/ofps/ruac/parac/contact/index.shtml or can be directed to the Project Manager listed below.
