Barn Dance with Spruce Rooster | Saturday, August 26 | 7 to 9 p.m.
Wescustogo Hall & Community Center Multigenerational. Free. No registration needed. Put your dancing shoes on for a fun evening with Spruce Rooster. Beginner and experienced dancers are welcome. Spruce Rooster is a string band that plays old time music, the traditional music for square dances. Tunes are usually played with some vigor. Old time music originated in Appalachia upon immigration of the Scots and Irish and thus predates bluegrass. The musicians in Spruce Rooster are: Mike Bendzela- fiddle and banjo; Emma Scott-fiddle; Pete Scott- guitar and mandolin; Dan DuBourdieu- bass and guitar; and Alan Davis-banjo. The barn dance will be called by Kathryn Larson. All dances will be taught and will be suitable for adults and children. Kathryn may call circle, contra, waltzes, and square dances. It’s expected that mistakes will be made. No worry, neighbors will help straighten it out. Offered in partnership with Cumberland and North Yarmouth Community Recreation |
