The Town of Gray is pleased to share that our Code Enforcement Office is assisting North Yarmouth while they evaluate how best to serve their community after recently experiencing a vacancy in the code enforcement officer (CEO) position. Our staff will continue serving Gray while we help our neighboring community during this transition.

This arrangement will begin next week, and the North Yarmouth Select Board will be appointing our CEO Tammy Munson at their upcoming meeting. This partnership is a testament to Munson’s expertise and the Gray Code Enforcement Office’s willingness to assist neighboring communities.

“We are more than happy to help North Yarmouth while they determine how best to staff their town’s needs,” said Munson. “I have the utmost faith in our team’s ability to continue our efficient operations here in Gray while we also support our neighbors.”

A code enforcement officer is a government employee responsible for enforcing local laws and regulations related to housing, zoning, and land use. Their role involves inspecting properties, communicating with property owners, and addressing violations.

No end date has been set for this arrangement in North Yarmouth, and Gray Town Manager Michael Foley will work with Munson to keep the Town Council and community updated.

“We are eager and willing to help our friends and neighbors in North Yarmouth as they evaluate their options, and we are optimistic this arrangement will work out well. It has been a pleasure working with North Yarmouth Town Manager Diane Barnes during this time of need for her organization,” said Foley.

“The Town of North Yarmouth is grateful to the Town of Gray for its willingness to help us out during this time of transition. We look forward to working together to best serve our communities and I’m impressed with Gray’s staff and operation,” said Barnes.

The Towns are working with their legal counsel to draft a memorandum of understanding for details of the arrangement, and the Town of North Yarmouth will be compensating Gray for these services. Those agreements and details are being finalized in the coming weeks, but Gray will begin helping North Yarmouth starting Monday, April 1, 2024.
